RJ Scott's Annual Autism Awareness Blog Hop

AUTISM FACT
Autism greatly varies from person to person (no two people with autism are alike)

When I saw RJ posting about her annual Autism Awareness hop, I was in the process of planning out my birthday month which was March into a Celebration of Life. I wanted to help raise awareness by sharing my struggles with Mental Health; to celebrate that I made it to the age of 39. What I had planned was to donate to a few charities. It wouldn't be much, but they say every little bit helps. So, I added Autism Speaks to the list of charities/organizations I'd give to. Everyone should experience understanding and compassion.

So, here we are, what I have to offer is a $100 Amazon GC and $100 Donation to Autism Speaks. Enter the Rafflecopter below. It runs from April 21st - 30th.

Thank you for visiting my blog today.

The theme is animals so here's a cute kitten picture:

  2. I was surprised to learn that the prevalence of autism is not affected by race, region, or socio-economic status.

If you haven't read it yet, I recommend Heidi Cullinan's Carry the Ocean.

  3. This is awesome. I totally understand wanting to give. We struggle with this everyday in my house and everyone should know about it. There is womderful people who are there to help in everyway. A should to cry on or just an ear to listen. I know for a fact that i would listen to anyone who had a bit of a rough day or who just had a peacful day and wanted to tell someone.

  4. Thanks for the post. What a lovely and generous way to celebrate your birthday month.

My son's elementary school has a program called Bobcat Buddies (bobcat is their school mascot). In this program he gets to spend time helping and playing with kids who are in the special needs class. My son really loves it. It enriches his life and he comes home with stories about the kids and the things they do together. This is one small thing a school can do to promote awareness and understanding.

  6. I don't know anyone with Autism I have seen TV programmes about Autism and to me they are the most amazing and unique people. I was so surprised when I saw the USA facts about Autism and how many people had Autism so I looked up the UK figures.

Autism affects more than 1 in 100 people – fact. Over. 700,000 people in UK are autistic, which means that 2.8m people have a relative on the autism spectrum. People tend to 'grow out' of autism in adulthood – myth. It's a lifelong condition – autistic children become autistic adults.

  7. I've met my share of people with Autism & it's really disheartening how some people criticize them. We have this neighbor who is mentally challenged & she's always laugh at by kids that's why I keep on reminding my young niece & nephew to not do what the other kids do to the poor woman. We should always be the ones who have the wider understanding since they can't do it themselves anymore or yet. ^_^

  8. A young man from my church wrote a play about his autism and his interests - dinosaurs, classical history, Revolutionary War. and more. I thought it was courageous of him to be so vulnerable. The play was put on by a professional theater group when i saw it.

  9. My sister use to work with autistic children. She use to come home and tell me stories. From all her stories I got that a autistic child's life could be quite stressful. While my sister did love working with her kids I could tell that their good or bad days also could be quite stressful for her.

  11. I volunteer at an animal shelter where an autist boy comes twice a week to interact with animals. It is incredible how good it is for him, as I've seen how his relationship with the dogs there has grown steadily during the last year.
